Overview

Why Rishikesh is the
yoga capital

Set where the Ganga leaves the Himalayas, Rishikesh has centuries of ashram and yogic tradition, hundreds of schools, and an atmosphere — vegetarian, alcohol-free, riverside — built for practice. The neighbourhoods of Tapovan and Swarg Ashram are the heart of it.

You don’t need to be advanced or spiritual to join. Classes and retreats run for every level, from a relaxed drop-in on a rooftop to a structured residential programme with philosophy, pranayama and meditation.

Where

Where to practise
and stay

Tapovan (near Laxman Jhula) is the buzziest yoga hub — schools, cafés and yoga shops on every lane. Swarg Ashram, on the eastern bank near Parmarth Niketan and Triveni Ghat, is quieter and more traditional, with the famous evening Ganga aarti a short walk away.

We can match you to a school or ashram by style, budget and how immersive you want it — from a boutique retreat to a simple ashram room — and bundle it with your stay and transfers.

Questions,

It ranges widely — a drop-in class, a 5-day retreat with stay and meals, and a 3-week teacher training are very different commitments. We match you to a school or ashram by style and budget and quote accordingly, so tell us what you’re after and we’ll send honest options on WhatsApp.
Very. Alongside advanced and teacher-training programmes, Rishikesh has countless beginner-friendly drop-in classes and gentle retreats. You don’t need experience or flexibility — just a willingness to start. We’ll point you to schools that teach beginners well.
March–April and September–November are the most pleasant. Yoga runs year-round, but summers are hot and the peak monsoon can be humid. Winter is cool and clear — lovely for practice if you pack warm layers for early mornings.
A retreat is usually a structured programme at a yoga school with daily classes, comfortable rooms and sattvic meals. An ashram stay (for example Parmarth Niketan) means following the ashram’s daily routine — early prayers, yoga, satsang and the Ganga aarti — in simpler accommodation. We can arrange either.
No — practice is open to everyone, spiritual or not. Do note that Rishikesh is a holy town: it’s vegetarian and alcohol-free, and modest dress is expected around ashrams and ghats. Most people find that simplicity part of the appeal.
Yes — many guests do a morning yoga session and an afternoon of rafting or sightseeing. Our 3-day package is built exactly for this balance of adventure and calm; tell us your yoga level and we’ll fold it in.
