Camping in Rishikesh

A night in a riverside camp is the best sleep in Rishikesh — Swiss tents pitched near the Ganga at Shivpuri or Byasi, a bonfire under the foothill sky, and rafting on your doorstep in the morning. Here’s what camping here really involves and how to pick the right camp.

Overview

Riverside camping
on the Ganga

Most Rishikesh camps cluster upriver around Shivpuri and Byasi (roughly 16–30 km from town), set back from the water on forested banks and beaches. You sleep in twin- or multi-share Swiss tents with proper beds, and share clean common washrooms.

The rhythm is simple and lovely: arrive, raft or relax, then an evening of volleyball or a short walk, a bonfire, dinner and starlight — no traffic, no crowds, just the river.

It depends on the camp type (adventure, riverside or luxury), the season, group size and whether you add rafting and transfers. We quote each camp stay to your plan rather than post a flat rate — share your dates and group and we’ll WhatsApp the best-matched camps with a clear quote.
Most riverside camps are upriver around Shivpuri and Byasi, roughly 16–30 km from Rishikesh town, set on forested banks near the Ganga. This is also the launch area for the classic 16 km rafting run, which is why camping and rafting pair so naturally.
Yes. Riverside and luxury camps are well suited to families and couples, with comfortable tents, proper beds and meals included. We only book camps we’ve vetted for cleanliness, location and safety, and can recommend quieter, more comfortable options for families.
September to June is ideal, matching the rafting season. Camps usually pause during the peak monsoon (July–August) when the river runs high and banks flood. Winter nights are cold but the bonfire makes up for it; pack warm layers.
Warm layers (nights are cool even in summer), quick-dry clothes for rafting, secure footwear, a torch, sunscreen, any personal medication and a small dry bag for valuables. Rishikesh is a vegetarian, alcohol-free area, so plan accordingly.
Yes — it’s the classic combination. Most camps sit right by the rafting launch stretch, so you can camp overnight and raft the next morning. Our 2-day package does exactly this, with the Ganga aarti added on the way back.
