Places to Visit in Rishikesh

Rishikesh packs a remarkable amount into a small stretch of the Ganga — grand aartis, swaying bridges, forest temples and Himalayan viewpoints. Here are the best places to visit, grouped so you can plan a route rather than dash between them.

The essentials

Ghats &
suspension bridges

Start with the icons — the riverfront and its famous bridges are the postcard of Rishikesh.

  • Triveni Ghat — the main ghat and the grand evening Ganga Aarti (Maha Aarti)
  • Laxman Jhula — the historic iron suspension bridge and temple bazaar
  • Ram Jhula — the larger bridge linking Swarg Ashram and Muni Ki Reti
  • Parmarth Niketan — a serene riverside ashram with its own beautiful aarti
  • Swarg Ashram — the traditional, walkable spiritual heart of Rishikesh

Short on time? Our hour-by-hour “Rishikesh in 2 Days” guide sequences these sights into an easy route.

Culture & history

Temples &
the Beatles Ashram

  • The Beatles Ashram (Chaurasi Kutia) — graffiti-covered meditation domes from 1968
  • Trayambakeshwar Temple — the 13-storey temple by Laxman Jhula
  • Neelkanth Mahadev — a revered Shiva temple in the forested hills (≈32 km)
  • Bharat Mandir — the oldest temple in Rishikesh, in the old town
  • Kunjapuri Devi — a Shakti Peeth with a 270° Himalayan panorama

Nature & views

Waterfalls, viewpoints
& the foothills

Rishikesh rewards anyone who steps just out of town — into the forest, up to a ridge, or onto the river.

  • Kunjapuri sunrise — the finest Himalayan viewpoint near Rishikesh
  • Neer Garh Waterfall — a short forest walk to tiered pools
  • Shivpuri — the rafting belt and riverside camps upriver
  • Patna & Garud Chatti waterfalls — quieter monsoon-fed cascades
  • The Ganga beaches — for a quiet sit away from the crowds

Good to Know

Questions,

The must-sees are Triveni Ghat (for the evening Ganga aarti), the Laxman Jhula and Ram Jhula suspension bridges, the Beatles Ashram, Parmarth Niketan and Swarg Ashram. Add a Kunjapuri sunrise, Neelkanth Mahadev and the Neer Garh waterfall if you have time. Most can be paired with rafting and a riverside camp.
Two days cover the essentials — the bridges, the Beatles Ashram, the aarti and a rafting-and-camp experience. Three days let you add a Kunjapuri sunrise, Neelkanth Mahadev, a waterfall and a slower yoga morning. See our 2-day itinerary guide for a ready-made route.
Most sights — the ghats, bridges, the aarti and temples — are free. The Beatles Ashram charges a small entry fee, and some viewpoints or waterfalls may have a nominal charge or parking fee. Activities like rafting and bungee are paid, of course. We include what’s relevant in your quote.
The grandest is at Triveni Ghat (the Maha Aarti). For a more serene, riverside setting, the aarti at Parmarth Niketan on the Swarg Ashram side is beautiful. Arrive 30–40 minutes early for a good spot, especially on weekends and festivals.
The ghats, the aarti, Ram Jhula (easier than the narrower Laxman Jhula), Parmarth Niketan and a gentle drive to Kunjapuri or Neelkanth suit all ages. We can arrange a car to every accessible point and a guide to handle the crowds and queues.
